LALMONIRHAT, Dec 18: A playground for around 700 students at two schools in Balapukur village under Aditmari upazila here has turned risky as a big hole has developed there. Recently two students fell into the hole, but luckily they were saved by their teachers immediately.
Students at Balapukur Govt Primary School and Balapukur High School said, they generally use the playground for different purposes, but they have been facing setback in this connection for the last three months due to emergence of the hole following flood during the last rainy season. The hole is connected with a nearby pond. They remain in constant fear of falling inside the hole, the students added.
Students also said, they are facing difficulties in attending assembly on the schools' premises only for the hole. Both assembly and playing are important parts of school life, but they are now deprived of these two things, they added.
Farzana Akhter, a student, said, due to the hole any tragic accident might happen anytime.
Another student, Sirajul Islam of Class II at Balapukur Govt Primary School said, he and his other classmates play on the ground regularly, but now they are facing difficulties in this connection.
Headmaster at Balapukur Govt Primary School Jagadish Chandra Roy said, after a meeting of the school managing committee in this connection the matter was informed to the authority concerned.
Headmaster at Balapukur High School Enamul Haque said, since there is no drainage system, flood and rain water remains stagnant on the school playground. Due to fund constraint, the school authorities cannot take steps in this connection, he added.
