NATORE, Dec 18: The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) here created works for 520 women labourers for village road maintenance and cleanliness works at different union parishads (UPs) here.
At present, the women labourers are working under 52 UPs of the district as village road cleaners and maintainers. Thus, they will clean around 1,040 kilometres area of roads in village areas.
The work has been started since November this year and will continue for the next two years. Each labourer will get Tk 150 per day.
Natore LGED source said, under the programme of village job facilities and maintenance, a 10-member woman team was formed at each UP of the district.
Shahnaj Khatun, a team leader of Hatiandaha UP under Singra upazila informed that her team is now working at Nalbata to Shaoil road point. Their work starts from 8am and continues till 2pm everyday, and each of them gets Tk 150. She further said each member of her team saves Tk 50 everyday.
Md. Abdur Rafiq, community organiser of Baraigram Village Employment and Maintenance Programme, said, a special training was given to each team by different NGOs of local unit. Besides that guides and advices are given to them on the 1st day of each month.
Ridoy Chandra Das, engineer of Singra upazila parishad, said, each team will do the maintenance and cleaning works of 20-kilometre long road in two years according to the rules of the project.
