A student of the Dhaka University has attempted to take her own life by setting herself on fire, the proctor says.

Persian Language and Literature student Anjuman Ara was rescued from the toilet of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Acting Proctor Amjad Ali said the incident happened at around 4:15pm and the third-year student suffered 28 percent burns.

According to a TSC staff, Anjuman poured kerosene and set herself alight after entering a toilet beside the Shaheed Munir Chowdhury Auditorium on the first floor of TSC.

She was rescued by other students.

But it is unclear why the student attempted the suicide.

She lives in the Poet Sufia Kamal Hall.
