Gazette of new pay scale published

The government has published the gazette of 8th National Pay Scale, increasing the salary of its employees.

Finance Division additional secretary Mohammad Ali Khan on Tuesday evening handed over the copy of gazette to Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith at the secretariat.

Showing the copy of gazette to journalists, the finance minister said it takes a little bit more time to publish the gazette.

Muhith, however, hoped the government employees will be happy over the new pay scale.

The highest salary in the new pay scale is set at Tk78,000 (fixed) while the lowest Tk8,250 up and down the ladder of twenty grades.

Under the pay scale the officers and employees will be entitled to an allowance at a rate of 20 per cent of their basic pays for Bengali New Year celebration for the first time.

The Cabinet Secretary, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and chiefs of three defence services including the army chief would draw fixed Tk86,000 (each of them) as monthly salary.

According to the new pay-scale, the government has to spend an additional Tk15,904 crore for salary purpose during the first year.

In the second year, the amount will rise at Tk23,828 crore for increase in salaries and allowances.

As per the new pay scale, there will be no classification of jobs of government employees (such as class-one, class-two, class-three and class-four categories) rather they will be treated in accordance with their respective grades (from grade one to  20).

The salary for grade-1 is Tk78,000 (fixed) while grade-2 Tk66,000, grade-3 Tk56,500, grade-4 Tk50,000, grade-5 Tk43,000, grade-6 Tk35,500, grade-7 Tk29,000, grade-8 Tk23,000, grade-9 Tk22,000, grade-10 Tk16,000, grade-11 Tk12,500, grade-12 Tk11,300, grade-13 Tk11,000, grade-14 Tk10,200, grade-15 Tk9,700, grade-16 Tk9,300, grade-17 Tk9,000, grade-18 Tk8,800, grade-19 Tk8,500 and grade-20 Tk8,250 (starting).

The increment of salaries from grade-20 to grade-6 will be 5 per cent of their basic for grade-5 4.5 per cent, from grade-3 to grade-4 it is four per cent and for grade-2 it is 3.75 per cent.

Each of the Senior Secretaries and Secretaries of the Ministries and Divisions will get Tk78,000 (fixed) as salary.
