Mumbai, Dec 13: The first cancer patient will be given an opportunity to inaugurate the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Peshawar on December 29. This was revealed by Naila Khan, the Marketing Executive of the hospital, which is being owned by the former Pakistani captain Imran Khan.
Imran Khan had opened the first branch of the hospital in Lahore and named it after his mother, who died of cancer.
Speaking exclusively over his mobile from Lahore, Naila Khan said, the Hospital will be inaugurated by the first cancer patient of the Hospital just like the Hospital in Lahore was".
"Other attendees will be celebrities who have participated in the efforts to raise funds for the Rs. 4 billion project in the last 3 years, Founding Donors of the Hospital and other dignitaries".
It could not be confirmed whether Imran Khan has extended invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this dream-project. They both recently met during Imran's trip to this country.
"The 1992-World Cup winning captain Imran Khan had appealed to the whole nation for support. People from all walks of life including cricketers donated. This time too cricketers and other celebrities have been participating in their personal capacity", she added.
"The mission of Pakistan's second Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Peshawar remains the same as that of Lahore. 75% of the patients will receive financially supported cancer treatment", she added.
The new Hospital in Peshwar will operate in different phases. "Our first phase is aimed at medication to the patients. We will be having an ICU (Intensive Care Unit), chemotherapy treatment and an advance laboratory in the first phase. The second and third phase will have radiation and surgical projects", Dr. Faisal Sultan, the Hospital CEO said from USA, where he has been on a personal visit.
