MOULVIBAZAR, Dec 9: Moulvibazar freedom day was observed here with much enthusiasm and in a befitting manner on Tuesday.
Marking the day, different programmes were chalked out; these included: placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the district Muktijoddha Complex premises, victory rally and discussion meeting.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Qumrul Hasan, Administrator of Zila Parishad and freedom fighter Md Azizur Rahman, General Secretary of district Awami League Nesar Ahmed, mayoral candidate and President of Juba League's district unit Fazlur Rahman, district Muktijoddha Commander Jamal Uddin Ahmed placed the wreaths there. Besides, on behalf of the newly elected lawmaker of Moulvibazar-3 constituency Syeda Saira Mohsin, floral wreaths were also placed there.
Later, a colourful victory rally was brought out from the district Muktijoddha Complex premises located at Forest Office Road.
A discussion meeting was also held on the central Shaheed Minar premises with district Muktijoddha Commander Md Jamal Uddin in the chair. It was addressed, among others, by senior politician and Administrator of Zila Parishad Md Azizur Rahman, freedom fighter Dewan Abdul Wahab Chowdhury, and General Secretary of district AL Nesar Ahmed.
It may be mentioned here that Moulvibazar district town was liberated on this very day in 1971. A contingent of freedom fighters led by the-then MCA Md Azizur Rahman took control of the town on this day and Md Azizur Rahman hoisted Bangladeshi flag on top of the-then Sub-Divisional Office (SDO) building.
