BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has said the government has betrayed with the spirit of the Liberation War in 1971.

"The government has destroyed the dream that the people cherished and ousted the autocratic ruler in 1990," said the BNP chief on Saturday in a message on the occasion of the day to mark the fall of autocratic ruler.

On December 6, 1990, the autocratic ruler H M Ershad had to step down in the face of mass movement.

Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in the message also said the exclusive election of January 5 has imprisoned the people in a cruel manner.

She also said the democracy is now at stake. The authoritarian character of one party rule is becoming visible day by day, Khaleda alleged.
