Trinomul BNP (Grass Root BNP), a new political party, was floated in the city on Friday.
Barrister Nazmul Huda, former vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a minister of BNP government, announced the formation of the Trinomul BNP at a press conference at Westin Hotel. He is the convener of the new party.
Barrister Nazmul Huda claimed that a number of leaders of BNP and Awami League will join his party in phases. Though, leaders of almost all political parties except BNP and Jamaat were invited to the programme no important political figures were seen at the press briefing. However, Nazim Uddin Al Azad, former minister of HM Ershad's Jatiya Party government, was sitting beside Barrister Huda.   In his inaugural speech, Huda said, "The leaders and workers of the BNP are now isolated from the people as the party did not take part in the last parliamentary election held on January 5 in 2014."
Boycotting the national election ignoring the sentiments of the party leaders and workers at the grassroots level, BNP is now neither in government nor in parliament. Most of the leaders are frustrated and inactive now, he added.
Justifying the necessity of floating the Trinomul BNP, Barrister Nazmul Huda said, "There is also no rule of law and democracy in the country now, so the new party was formed to restore democracy in the country."
He said, "We welcome any kind of help from anybody to join and make the new party strong and active. It will not be ISIS or RAW."
The former BNP stalwart claimed, "Many BNP leaders, who were deprived and ignored in the party, will join his new party gradually to restore fair politics in the country."
After being suspended from the BNP by Khaleda Zia, he first formed Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) but after a few months Huda left the party and formed Bangladesh Manabadhiker Party (BMP) declaring himself as chairman of the party. He also formed an alliance, the Bangladesh National Alliance (BNA).   When journalists repeatedly asked him who will join his new party, Barrister Huda said "Wait and see."
