The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the High Court (HC) order that asked to place a proposal to the cabinet within 60 days extending service age for freedom fighters to 65 years from 57 in government job.

The Appellate Division, led by chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, disposed the leave-to-appeal filed by the state and passed the order on Monday.

In 2006, one Jamal Uddin filed a writ petition to the HC seeking extension of the age of service holder freedom fighters to 65 years from 57 .

After hearing the petition, on January 14, this year, the bench of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher M Saifur Rahman asked the authority concerned to place the proposal in this regard to the cabinet meeting within 60 days.

Later, the government filed a leave-to-appeal against the verdict.
