Oishee Rahman, was "nurturing hatred" for her parents as they tried to discipline her as she had been a regular taker of contraband yaba tablets. Her hatred led to the killing of her father, a police officer, and her mother on August 16, 2013 in their house in the capital.
The unprecedented murder of parents by a young female drug addict spread sensation in the country.
Oishee had reportedly put her parents, SB Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna, on sedatives on Aug 14 night and stabbed them to death their bodies were found two days later.
Oishee, was the youngest female convicts in Bangladesh's judicial history to received death penalty. A Speedy Trial Tribunal in Dhaka issued the verdict on Thursday, saying she was "adult" when committed the crime and there was no way to consider her a "minor," that could set her on a lesser punishment.
According to the post-mortem report, Oishee, apparently her mentally unstable, stabbed her sedated parents inflicting multiple wounds, like a professional killers.
In the charge sheet, DB Inspector Abul Khair mentioned Oishee, a "O" level student, as murderer of her parents who stabbed them indiscriminately after mixing sleeping pills with their coffee, angry as they tried to stop her from taking drugs, Oishee, her two friends and a house help Khadija Akter Sumi were also implicated to the couple's gruesome killing in their own house.
The underage house help is being tried by a juvenile court. The Speedy Trial court acquitted Asaduzzaman Jony, another friend of Oishee, who also faced charges of abetment in the crime.
Yaba is a growing national concern because a number of tragic incidents had been caused by the addictive substance. Yaba is said to be a sex stimulant and has hallucinatory effects on the user.
Once Oishee said that she alone committed the crime and at other time said her friends, Jony and Saidul, took part in murdering her parents. "Her statements are full of inconsistency and confusing", said a DB police officer.
The police officials are, however, sure that Oishee killed her parents because there is only one set of fingerprints in the knife used to commit the murders although she is frequently changing her story. She prefers describing information about her deviant lifestyle to giving details about murder.
She confessed that a few days before the killing she left her residence and stayed outside for two weeks with Jony's girlfriend. At that time she had physical contact with Jony.
There she made friendship with Bakir who was a yaba addict. Gradually the friendship made Oishee addicted to Yaba. At that point she lost all control on herself. She even began to sell Yaba tablets to others with her friend Mizanur Rahman Roni. She claimed her relationship with her parents sharply deteriorated since her return
One of the detectives dealing with the case said that due to some misgiving regarding Oishee's age, she was questioned carefully. Questions were first raised about her age when the DB police started quizzing her in custody. The bodies of her parents Police's Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Begum were recovered from a locked bathroom.
According to documents preserved at the Oxford International School, where she is an 'O-level' student, Oishee is short of 18 years. Her birth date as per given records is August 17 of 1996. On the other hand, Paltan police Sub-Inspector Shafiullah Pradhan on Saturday claimed that Oishee had said she was 19 when she gave herself up. DB police found that she born at Misu Clinical in Khulna on 17 August 1994.
Oishee once pleaded to a Dhaka court to withdraw her confessional statement. She in her plea said police had tortured and forced her to give that confessional statement.
Detectives have repeatedly claimed Oishee was alone responsible for the gruesome murders, after which she gave herself up to the police a day later.
Mahfuz's brother Moshiur Rahman Rubel, however, had contested police's claim. Rubel, also plaintiff of the murder case, suspects 'other mystery' behind the killing of his brother and sister-in-law.
Oishee's school records show she is a minor. National Human Rights Commission Chairman Mizanur Rahman has said her arrest and remand are a complete violation of the Children Act.
