The fourth council of the pro-government doctor's forum Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip) will hold today (Friday) after a decade. The new leadership will come through selection process as there will be no election due to lack of transparent voter lists.
So, the National Executive body of the organization handed over the responsibility to form a new committee to the Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The decision was made at a meeting on November 7, insiders said. The top most aspirants had passed a busy day on Thursday to get blessings from the ruling AL bigwigs to get party leadership.
The council will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan around 10 am with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the first session, while the council session will start at 3pm at Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium.
The last (3rd) council of the Swachip, was held on 2003 though the organization attempted to hold council in 2011, 2012 and 2014 but they failed to bring a success.
The grass roots leaders wanted to cast their votes but it could not be held this time according to the executive body's decision.
Earlier, the pro-government doctors' forum has delisted over thousand of its members for being identified as pro BNP-Jamaat and finalised the voter list ahead of the Nov 13 council. After axing identified 322 pro BNP-Jamaat people by the Executive Committee based on the recommendations of the divisional committees now Swachip has 13, 225 members. Swachip Secretary General Dr. M. Iqbal Arslan said that the Prime Minister will decide what will be the process. "But the tradition is to elect the leadership through elections," he said.
