A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced Oishee Rahman, the daughter of slain cop couple, to death for killing her parents.

Judge Syed Ahmed of the Speedy Trial Tribunal (STT) -3 handed down the verdict in presence of three accused in the case-- the couple’s daughter Oishee Rahman, her friends Mizanur Rahman Rony and Asaduzzaman Johny.

The tribunal also fined Oishee Tk20,000, in default, to suffer one year more imprisonment.

Besides, the tribunal sentenced Mizanur Rahman Rony to two years’ imprisonment and fined him Tk5,000, in default, to suffer one month more jail and Asaduzzaman Johnny was acquitted from the charges.

The Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 said Oishee was an “adult” when she killed her parents, thus there is no scope to consider her as a minor.

The judge delivered the verdict in the case at a packed courtroom. Oishee broke down in tears after hearing the verdict.

The court said Oishee did not murder her parents in a drunken state. “The murder was planned thoroughly and by support of someone else.”

On August 16, 2013, police recovered the bodies of SB Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman from their Chamelibagh residence in the capital.

Later, Oishee surrendered to the police confessing to her involvement in the killing.

Police also arrested her two friends-- Asaduzzaman and Mizanur and domestic help of their house Khadiza Akhter Sumi in connection with the murder.

Mahfuzur’s brother Mohammad Mashiur Rahman Rubel filed a case with Paltan Police Station on August 17.

The trial in the case over the killing of the couple started on July 8, 2014, through recording depositions of the witnesses.

A total of 39 witnesses, out of 57, gave their depositions before the tribunal.
