The Local Government Division of the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry issued the gazette of the Local Government (Municipality) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2015 on Monday evening with the approval of President Abdul Hamid.
The ordinance was issued a day after the Election Commission (EC) asked the government to amend the law immediately. Otherwise, the municipality polls would be held under previous non-partisan system.
Earlier, the Cabinet recently approved the drafts of five acts relevant with the local government including the ordinance for holding the local government polls under political affiliation. The government had to issue the ordinance since Parliament is not in session.
