Kader Siddique's Nomination The Election Commission (EC) on Monday filed a petition seeking a stay on a High Court order that asked to accept the nomination paper of Krishak Sramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddique for allowing him to contest the Tangail-4 by-polls.
Barrister Mohammad Yeasin Khan, an EC lawyer, said they filed the petition before the Appellate Division bench of the Supreme Court on Monday, and the hearing will be held at the vacation chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Tuesday.
Earlier, on October 21, a High Court bench comprising Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice Kazi Mohammad Izarul Haq asked the Election Commission to accept the nomination paper of Abdul Kader Siddique.
On October 20, Kader Siddique filed the writ petition with the HC challenging the legality of the cancellation of his nomination to contest the Tangail-4 by-polls.
The parliamentary seat-133 (Tangail-4) has remained vacant since September 1 as sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique, elder brother of Kader Siddique, quit his parliament membership on the day.
The commission scrapped his nomination as the Credit Information Bureau of Bangladesh Bank sent a fax to the commission informing that Siddique's firm Sonar Bangla Engineering defaulted on a Tk 10.88 crore loan from Agrani Bank.    ?UNB
