BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday alleged that the country is passing through a critical time as there is no freedom of speech.
"A critical time has hit Bangladesh now. There is no scope here for exercising free thinking. Now people's voices are gagged and put obstacles to free thinking," he said.
Speaking at a discussion on Friday, he further said, "It's unfortunate for those who had dreamt of a beautiful Bangladesh before 1971 and fought in the Liberation War as now we're in a suffocating situation and don't have the right to expression. Those who we want to speak the truth and hold different opinions are being subjected to repression and suppression."
The programme was arranged at the residence of late filmmaker Chashi Nazrul Islam, marking his 75th birth anniversary. Chashi Nazrul died of cancer on January 11, 2015.     ?UNB
