
Marking the day, Friendship, a non-government organisation in the country, chalked out elaborate programmes in the district.
At noon, a discussion meeting on the boat was held at Balashigaht area under Fulchhari upazila in the district with district coordinator Abdus Salam in the chair.
Sadar Upazila Education Officer Abdul Jobbar addressed the function as chief guest and assistant upazila education officers Masum Billah and Mosarrof Hossain were present at the event as special guests.
The function was also addressed, among others, by Anwarul Islam, project manager, and project coordinators Amdadul Haque and Akmal Hossain.
The speakers, in their speeches, said Global Dignity Day is a part of a movement that aims to instill the values of dignity in young people around the world - living a dignified life and helping others lead a more dignified life.
Mentioning dignity as universal and also the source of human rights, they emphasised the need for ensuring dignity for anyone in the society.
District coordinator Abdus Salam said Runa Khan, founder and executive director of Friendship, is representing Bangladesh in the map of Global Dignity as the chair of Global Dignity in Bangladesh. This year Global Dignity Day is observed under her guidance in partnership with Friendship in 78 Friendship schools in the northern char areas and the southern coastal areas of Bangladesh, he added.
Later, a boat rally was launched in the River Brahmautra from Balashighat area, which ended at Batikamari char under Sadar upazila.
