Sri Lanka champions, Solid FC booked a 2-1 win in their first match of the Sk Kamal Int'l Club Cup football tournament against Kolkata Mohammedan while Dhaka Mohammedan begin the event with a 1-0 defeat to the Afghan champions, De Spin Ghar Bazan FC at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong on Wednesday.
In the day's first meet, Solid SC played the first half quite defensive and ultimately conceded a goal in the 38th minute of the match.
After entering the danger zone, Kolkata Mohammedan striker Taurus Tecompleh Manneh proficiently chipped the ball over Solid FC's helpless custodian ITM Fazeel to hit the net.
Yet the Kolkata team was near to take the lead in the 17th minute when their defender Kareem Omolaja Nurain curved a right footer to the post and the ball was bounced from the left-side post.
Kolkata Mohammedan, the Black Panthers were able to hold the lead in the first half.
In spite of a devastating first half, Sri Lanka champions became successful to return in the game soon after the second half of the match began.
Their midfielder AO Shola reimbursed a goal to level the margin in the 47th minute. Beating two of the black panthers' defenders in the danger zone, Shola hit the net with a solo effort.
The both teams were trying to break the parity and the Sri Lankans could make it at the eleventh hour.
Midfielder S Gnanaruban netted the match winning goal in the 88th minute for Solid FC. Controlling a free kick of midfielder VRJE Figurado, Ganaruban sent the ball home.
Securing the win, inspired Solid boys were trying to widen the margin and in reply Kolkata MSC boys left no scope for the opponents to score any goal till the long whistle.
The second match of the day experienced a thrilling football time as the opponents played a very attacking game from the first to last minute.
The Kabul-based football team scored the solace of the match in the 33rd minute.
Although the Black and Whites endeavoured for several times in the second half, they could not restore the parity till the end.
After Wednesday's matches, De Spin Ghar Bazan FC were leading the point table of the Group-A with three points. Solid FC were in the second place of the group with the same points as they conceded one more goal then the Afghan team.
