Man beaten dead over land in city

Dhaka, Oct 18: A sexagenarian man was beaten to death allegedly by his rivals over a land-related dispute at Nayatola in the city's Maghbazar area on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Shamsul Haque, 60, a resident of 148 Nayatola.
The deceased's brother, Md Falam, said there had been a longstanding dispute between Shamsul and Shahidul, brother of Traffic Deputy Commissioner Imam, over the ownership of a piece of land.
On Friday night, Shahidul along with his supporters attacked Shamsul and beat him mercilessly when they went to take possession of the disputed land, leaving Shamsul critically injured.
The injured was rushed to a local clinic from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Shamsul succumbed to his injuries at about 11:00 pam at the hospital. In-charge of DMCH police camp Mojammel Hossain confirmed the death.    ?UNB
