Medical student goes missing while swimming off Kuakata coast

Patuakhali : A student of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) went missing in the waters of Kuakata on Thursday afternoon.

The boy who remained missing is identified as Mamun, a third year student of the SBMC.

The incident happened at about 2pm as a group of medical students went swimming off the coast of Kuakata in the district, said Sajid, a fellow student.

SI Sanjay Mondol of Kuakata marine police outpost, said a group of 55 medical students came to visit Kuakata in the afternoon.

ASP Meer Fasiur Rahman of Kuakata Tourist Police said Mamun did not know how to swim and went missing due to strong wave in the sea.

On information, Tourist Police, coastguard and fire fighters rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
