A legal notice was served on the government on Sunday seeking judicial inquiry into the death of assistant director of University Grants Commission (UGC) Omar Siraj in Rab custody.
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Yunus Ali Akand sent the notice to the cabinet secretary, the home secretary and the law secretary by post.
In his notice, Akand mentioned that he will file a writ petition with the High Court seeking remedy if necessary steps are not taken in this regard within 24 hours.
Omar Siraj was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion-4 on September 18 for his suspected link with question paper leakage.
Omar was taken on a fresh two-day remand by the elite force unit on September 29.
On Thursday (October 1), Omar complained of chest pain around 4:45 pm and was later taken to National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases (NICVD) at Sher-e-Banglanagar around 5:30 pm where he died around 7:15 pm.
