Dhaka Metropolitan Police will deploy 12,000 personnel in the capital to secure it during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has said.

The police personnel, including 2,000 plainclothesmen, would work in tandem with members of other law enforcement agencies, he told journalists on Thursday, after inspecting the National Eidgah Ground, the venue for Dhaka’s largest Eid congregation.
When asked whether the massive deployment was prompted by a security threat perception or fear of terrorist strikes, he said, “Securing Dhaka-residents is our first priority.
“Our deployment is meant to ensure that. We have no information of any special threats.”
He added they had secured the Eidgah ground with CCTV cameras and set up a monitoring camp. “Police will be able to act at once if anything untoward happens.”
