Keraniganj: Ruling Awami League (AL)-backed candidate Alamgir Hossain has been unofficially elected chairman in Dohar upazila by-polls.
Dhaka district election commissioner Shah Alam announced the unofficial results of the election on Monday night.
Alamgir bagged 52,7,32 votes while his nearest rival pro-BNP contestant Sirajul Islam Bhulu polled 15,3,88 votes.
The election was held on Monday as the post fell vacant following the death of Dohar Upazila Chairman Qamrul Huda on June 26.
Election commissioner Shah Alam said voting for by-election to the post of Chairman of Dohar Upazila Parishad completed peacefully on Monday but BNP-backed candidate Sirajul Islam Bhulu and Independent candidate Mehbub Kabir boycotted the polls in the afternoon accusing AL supporters of storming polling centres and casting fake votes.
