A Speedy Trial Tribunal (STT) in Dhaka on Monday sentenced a man to death and another one to life term imprisonment for killing a BRAC Bank Officer, TM Mehedi Masud, in 2011. The court also sentenced two accused to five years imprisonment. The Judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4, Abdur Rahman Sardar, handed down the verdict in presence of the three accused. The convict who walks to gallows is -- Abdul Majid Dalim and also a former driver of BRAC Bank. The court also fined him Tk 20,000. The lifer is--Md Jahangir Alam. The court fined him Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer one year more in prison. The other convicts are--Idul and Farruque. The court fined them Tk 10,000 in default, to suffer six months more imprisonment. According to the case statement, TM Mehedi Masud, former Brac Bank official of Gulshan Branch, went to Jamgara in Savar after receiving a call from Abdul Majid Dalim on September 16, 2011. Dalim along with Jahangir, Idul and Faruk strangled Masud to death and dumped his body under Shubhulya Bridge in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail district. Later, Masud was found dead in the area on September 17, 2011. Sub-inspector of Mirzapur Police Station Bimal Chandra filed a case in this connection. Tangail CID inspector Zafar Iqbal submitted the chargesheet against the four people on September 29, 2013. The police said in its report that the accused former driver Dalim became vindictive against Mehedi Masud over losing his job at the bank. The tribunal framed charges against the accused on September 1 in 2014. Special Public Prosecutor Mahfujur Rahman Likhon prosecuted the case on behalf of the state.
