The decision came from a weekly cabinet meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
After the government's decision, the agitating students instantly withdrew their agitation programmes.
Earlier, the government imposed 7.5 percent VAT on the tuition fees of private university students in the national budget of current fiscal year of 2015-16.
National Board of Revenue clarified that the students will not have to pay the VAT. The universities will have to pay it.
But the students of private universities have been staging protest against the VAT imposed on tuition fees of private universities over the last couple of days.
They were also holding demonstration and procession for the third consecutive day on Monday blocking roads in the capital protesting the imposition of VAT on education.
