A day-long security dialogue between United States and Bangladesh was held at US capital Washington DC on Friday. The security dialogue participated by senior civil and military officials discussed various issues to enhance collaboration in countering extremism and terrorism, security assistance, United Nations peacekeeping operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster response. The fourth Dialogue on Security also discussed regional cooperation, traditional and non-traditional security issues. The officials from both sides exchanged ideas on multiple issues on bilateral security partnership, such as identification of strategic priorities, deeper engagement on both military and non-military security aspects, political-military issues including joint military exercises, training and security cooperation, official sources said. Foreign Secretary (Bilateral) Mizanur Rahman led the Bangladesh delegation, which is comprised of senior officials from the ministries of Foreign, Home, Defence, Disaster Management, Armed Forces Division and Bangladesh Embassy in Washington. The US side was headed by Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Bureau of Political-Military Affairs Todd C Chapman and was assisted by officials from the US Department of State, Defence and Bureau of Political-Military Affairs and Ambassador to Bangladesh, Marcia Bernicat. The last dialogue held at Dhaka on April 22, 2014. The first security dialogue was held on April 19, 2012 while the second meeting was held in 2013, in Washington.
