Jessore : Police on Friday night recovered 110 gold bars, weighing 12.83 kilograms, from a private car which had been
seized on Wednesday in another case.
Soyruddin Ahmed, officer in-charge of Bagharpara Police Station, said the car was searched in presence of additional police super of the district AKM Ariful Haque.
The gold bars in 11 packets were kept in the gear box of the car, he added.
Police also held a constable, Mizanur Rahman, of Jhikargachcha Police
Station alongwith the car. But, he fled the police station on Thursday.
Police said some 5-6 persons, including constable Mizan, by two motorcycle waylaid the private car of Touhidur Rahman Khan near Gabtala Bridge on Wednesday.
They identified themselves as police men, handcuffed car driver Malek and drove the car to a brick field where the driver and passenger were beaten up.
Later, when Mizan was driving towards Basundia on the Jessore-Narail road, Bagharpara thana SI Tarun Kumar Kar challenged him. Sensing trouble, the motorcycle riders fled away, but Mizan was caught.
During investigation the gold bars were seized.
Meanwhile, Bagharpara thana OC Quaiyum Ali Sardar, assistant sub-inspector Nasir and constable Oliar Rahman were closed in the
district police lines for their negligence in duty.
A case was filed in this connection.
