Sylhet : The authority of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has temporarily expelled four students and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for their involvement in Sunday's attack on demonstrating teachers and assault of journalists on the campus.

Vice Chancellor Prof Md Aminul Haque Bhuyan confirmed journalists about the expulsion on Tuesday afternoon.

They are Dhani Ram Roy, master’s student of Statistics department, Abdullah Al Masum, fourth year student of Political Studies department and Ariful Islam and Jahid Hasan Nayeem of Forestry and Environmental Science. They all are known to be followers of Bangladesh Chhatra League SUST unit General Secretary Imran Khan.

Show cause notice was also issued against them, the VC said.
“We’ll take further steps against them based on the investigation committee’s recommendations,” he added.

Connected, Imran Khan said, "I have no follower on the campus."

SUST unit BCL president Sanjiban Chakrabarty Partho said, "We hope that the varsity authority will take steps after proper investigation."

bdnews24.com added : During Sunday’s attack, they were seen with Abdul Baten Tonmoy, Arifur Rahman Rony, Abdus Salam Monju, Kamrul Islam, ‘Jewel’, Arifur Rahman Kennedy, Foysal Ahmed, ‘Tomal’ and ‘Jahid’.

The SUST has formed a committee to investigate attack on teachers seeking removal of the VC. It is also probing allegations of ‘attack on the VC‘ and barring him from entering his office.

Imran Khan distanced himself from the four saying they were not his followers.

“We want the university to take actions against those who attacked [the teachers],” Khan said.

The ruling Awami League’s student affiliate on Monday night temporarily expelled three SUST leaders – university unit senior vice-presidents Abu Sayeed Akanda and Anjan Roy and Senior Joint General Secretary Sajedul Islam Sabuj.
