Man killed in Sylhet over land dispute

SYLHET, Aug 19: A person was killed and 10 others injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a land dispute at Satpur Khasjan village under Biswanath upazila of Sylhet last night.
The deceased was identified as Rafiq Miah, 55, son of late Abdul Matlib. Local people said there had been a long-standing enmity between the followers of Rafiq Miah and Rais Uddin over the ownership of a piece of land in the village.
As a sequel to the enmity, both the groups locked into an altercation over the issue in the evening, leaving 11 people including Rafiq injured. Of the 11, Rafiq was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead around 8:00pm.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bishwanath Police Station Rafiqul Hossain said that police arrested Rais Uddin, 65, Yunus Ali, 60, and his wife Nebarunnesa, 40, over the incident. A case was filed in this connection, the OC confirmed.
