Promising filmmakers Abu Shahed Emon and Ashraf Shishir are looking to screen their award winning movies both of which are productions of Impress Telefilm. As Emon is going to premiere his epic success Jalaler Golpo in Bangladesh for the first time Shishir is taking the global hit 'Gaariwala' to a film festival in Kenya. 'Jalaler Golpo' will be premiered today at 12.30pm in the noon at the Blockbuster cinema hall of Jamuna Future Park, Baridhara in the city. The movie with a runtime of 121 mins is also set to be released in Star Cineplex, Bashundhara City Shopping Complex and Shyamoli Cinema Hall, Shyamoli on September 4.
Emon's debut movie 'Jalaler Golpo' is about the struggles of a boy dreaming to become a man of reckoning in the society. Like the prophet Moses this boy also gets rescued from a river at his infancy and like the unpredictable waves of rivers through the tortuous ripples of life goes on to become a gangster. 'Jalaler Golpo' has been produced by Channel i's managing director Faridur Reza Sagar. The movie is currently travelling in the 39th World Montreal Film Festival (MWFF) the only North American festival recognised by International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). The movie rivaled against Japan, China, India and Iran to snatch the best movie and best actor (Mosharraf Karim) awards in the 19th Avanca International Film Festival organised by Portugal in July.
Gaariwala was screened on August 25 in the International movie category in 5th Slum Film Festival in Nairobi, Kenya. The festival started from August 24 and will end today. Gaariwala has been screened in international festivals more times than any other movie from Bangladesh. It has grabbed eight prizes while participating in forty four festivals spanning five continents and eighteen countries including the United States, Italy, Spain and India. The plot of the movie involves the struggles of two siblings and their mother against dire poverty a familiar picture of Africa. Its director Ashraf Shishir always wished to echo the voices of African general mass. He felt elated knowing that Africans will now get to see his movie in the big screen. Movies namely 'The Innocence', 'The Art & Religion', 'The Daily Refuse', 'The Fukuwaka Method', 'The Ages' etc. are other notable works by Ashraf Shishir.
