Iyad Ameen Madani, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) Secretary General, who arrived in Dhaka on Saturday on a three-day official visit, has stressed on strengthening relations among the OIC member states.
During his brief visit Madani called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday morning and also meet Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali in the afternoon.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the Muslim countries to get united and stand together against terrorism.
She said this while the visiting Secretary General of the OIC Iyad Ameen Madani paid a courtesy call on her at her office.
Referring to the suicide bomb attacks on a Saudi Mosque, Hasina condemned the incident and said Islam never supports such kind of heinous acts.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Prime Minister observed that such activities by the terrorists in the Muslim countries are giving chances to others to take advantage.
"Islam as a religion of peace teaches us tolerance," Hasina said regretting that Muslim countries are fighting against each other and it is very unfortunate.
"Terrorists are just terrorists and there should not be any question of religion on the issue," she said.
She underscored the need for settling the conflicts among the Muslim countries through discussions.
Hasina urged the Muslim countries to close ranks and stand together against terrorism.
On the role of the OIC in the development of education sector, the Prime Minister put importance on science and technology -based education.
In this regard, she mentioned that her government had established a number of science and technology- based universities in the country to promote science and ICT- based education in Bangladesh.
Besides, her government has also been promoting research activities by allocating funds separately, she said.
Madani said the basic philosophy of OIC is to integrate the Muslim countries. Bangladesh always remains in the forefront of the activities of the OIC and is playing its due role, he told the Prime Minister.
The OIC Secretary General invited the Prime Minister to the next OIC Summit that will be held in 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey. Hasina said she would be glad to participate in the Summit, the Foreign Ministry official said.
The OIC Secretary General is leading a six-member delegation on his second visit to Bangladesh..
Madani also visited International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB) in the capital. He appreciated the work of the centre of excellence that Bangladesh has developed over the years.
Madani made his maiden visit to Bangladesh in March last year, soon after assuming office of this organisation comprising 57 Muslim countries.
He will leave Dhaka on Monday morning, the official said.
