Brahmanbaria: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said that it was not only heavy rains or vehicles that destroyed roads but also low-quality materials.

He warned the contractors and engineers involved in such malpractices and said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina does not spare any wrongdoers and they should be aware of it.

He also said that the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway was being developed into a four-lane highway. The Brahmanbaria bypass and
Brahmanbaria-Comilla Highway would be developed, too. "There is no shortage of funds but work has to be done properly," he added.

The minister said, "I had my plane ticket with me but I took the road so that I could see for myself the state of the
highways," Quader said.

The minister was talking to journalists on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.
