
Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Syed Belal Hossain took the decision on Monday for hampering public safety, according to a report published in the online edition of a national daily.
The DC, however, told the daily that a list containing the names of the arms holders was handed over to the district Superintendent of Police.
A high official, on condition of anonymity, disclosed that license of one firearm of district Swechchhasebak League president Akhtaruzzaman Labu, three of its general secretary sajjad Hossain, two of former district AL general secretary Mominur Rahman Momiz, one each of Mirpur poura AL joint convenor Abdul Wahed, Mirpur upazila AL education and human resources development affairs secretary M Ali Joardar and housing ward-6 of Kushtia poura unit AL activist Mostafizur Rahman.
He, however, could not confirm about the other firearm.
SP Pralay Chisim said six of the arms have, so far, been seized. The owners have been asked to deposit the remaining four arms, including the shotgun used during the clash on August 15. If the owners do not deposit the arms willingly, then those would be considered illegal, the SP added.
Supporters of expelled AL leader Mominur Rahman and district Swechchhasebak League clashed at Majampur Railgate area in Kushtia district town on August 15 over paying tribute to Bangabandhu that left a Jubo League man dead.
