GOPALGANJ, Aug 12: Asking the BNP chairperson to join the national election to be held in 2019, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim here on Wednesday threw a challenge that the 14-party alliance will defeat Khaleda Zia in the polls to be held under Sheikh Hasina leadership.
"Why do you (Khaleda) escape polls? Take part in the election in 2019. The 14-party combine, including Awami League, unitedly want to defeat you. Accept the challenge and join the polls," he said.
Nasim, also the spokesperson of the ruling alliance, was talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara along with the 14-party leaders, marking his 40th death anniversary in the afternoon.
The Awami League leader also accused the BNP chief of hatching conspiracies against the country.
He, however, said none of her plots will work. "Awami League and the 14-party alliance are ready to thwart her conspiracies."
Nasim also said the ruling alliance is working under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership to establish Bangladesh as a non-communal country which will be free from exploitation as dreamt by the Father of the Nation.
A milad and doa mahfil was also held at Bangabandhu Mausoleum Complex at Tungipara on the occasion.
Workers Party leaders Fazle Hossain Badsha, Kamrul Islam, JSD leaders Moin Uddin Khan Badal, Nurul Ambia, Tariqat Federation chairman Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizvandary, Dilip Barua of Samyabadi Dal, Nurul Rahman Selim of Ganotantri Party and Jahangir Kabir Nanak were, among others, present.    ?UNB
