A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered the Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to conduct the DNA test of a tooth, and bloodstained shirt and napkin of slain blogger Niladri Chattopadhyay Niloy.

Metropolitan Magistrate M Emdadul Haque passed the order following a petition filed by Anwar Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Khilgaon Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case filed over the killing of the blogger.

In another development, the case was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from Khligaon Police Station on Sunday.

Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Muntashirul Islam confirmed it, saying they are yet to receive the case documents till filing of this report around 10pm.

Earlier on Saturday, another Dhaka court ordered the investigation officer to submit the police report on the murder on September 16.

Besides, the statement of Ansar-Al-Islam, the Bangladesh chapter of al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent, claiming responsibility for the killing of the blogger was sent from inside Bangladesh, said DB.

Claiming the responsibility for the murder of the blogger, an e-mail was sent to the media in Bangladesh from [email protected] several hours after the brutal killing on Friday.

The email was issued by Mufti Abdullah Ashraf, who claimed himself to be the spokesman of Ansar-Al-Islam.

Talking to reporters at the DMP Media Centre in the city on Sunday, Deputy Commissioner (East) of Detective Branch Mahbub Alam said the DB has already confirmed that the mail was sent from Bangladesh.

“We’re carrying out investigation into the involvement of the group in the blogger killing,” the DC (DB-East) said.

Blogger Niloy, who was residing at a rented flat on the 4th floor of a multi-storey building at Goran in the city, was hacked to death in the city's Khilgaon area on Friday.

Niloy is the fourth Bangladeshi blogger killed so far this year.
