2 girls missing, 4 rescued in Meherpur boat capsize

Meherpur: Two girls have gone missing and four others rescued as a boat capsized in the river Bhairab at  Rashikpur ferry ghat under Mujibnagar upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.

The missing girl students are Babita Khatun, daughter of Hashem Ali and Tania Khatun, daughter of Habur Ali of village Rashikpur of Mujibnagar upazila.

They were the students of class VII of Bagwan Secondary School of the same upazila.

Locals and police said, a total of 38 girl students were returning from their school. They boarded on a boat to cross the river Bhairob.

The boat capsized in the middle of the river due to over load.

Some 4 students were rescued by the locals and sent to health complex in critical condition while two remained missing.

However, rest of 32 students swam to shore.

Mujibnagar thana police and the members of fire services and civil defence have been trying to trace the missing girls.
