Textiles and Jute Minister M Emaz Uddin Pramanik Wednesday said the government has undertaken initiatives for improving the handloom sector. "The government is committed to provide all out support for improving socioeconomic condition of the weavers," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at Handloom Board in the city. State Minister of the ministry Mirza Azam and secretary Farid Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury were present as special guests in the meeting. The government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would undertake initiatives to develop the socio-economic condition of country's weavers and make them self- reliant, he said. He discussed the activities of Bangladesh Handloom Board during the meeting and said, "The government is hopeful to overcome existing problems of the weavers." During the meeting State Minister Mirza Azam said the government would undertake necessary steps to reopen 2.0 lakh handlooms out of 5.0 lakh in the country. ?BSS
