GAIBANDHA, Aug 3: The District Administration has chalked out elaborate programmes in the district to observe the National Mourning Day on August 15, the day of the 40th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The decision on daylong programmes was adopted at a meeting in presence of local Awami League (AL) leaders and its associate organisations, heads of educational institutions, representatives from socio-cultural organisations and journalists of print and electronic media, office sources said.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad presided over the meeting which was held at the conference room of the District Collectorate building here on Sunday noon.
The programmes include hoisting of National Flag at half mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings, placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and bringing out mourning procession in the town.
The programmes also include children's art competition, special doa and milad mahfil, tabarak distribution to the destitute and discussion meeting on the life of Bangabandhu.
sub-committees were also formed to observe the day in the district with due respect and honour.
DC M. Abdus Samad, in his speech sought whole-hearted cooperation of all to make the programmes successful in all the seven upazilas of the district.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Police Super Ashraful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique, Deputy Director of Local Government Section M. Mokhlesur Rahman, General Secretary of District AL Abu Bakar Siddique, Freedom Fighter Goutam Chandra Modak and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
Additional District Magistrate Aleya Begum, district level officials, and NDC M. Nazmul Huda also participated in the meeting.
