NETRAKONA, Aug 3: A court here sentenced a man to death on Monday morning for killing his father over land dispute at Kendua Upazila of the district about nine years back.
Netrakona Additional Sessions Judge Md Abdul Hamid awarded the verdict against Abdul Hekim, 40, as he killed his father Budhu Mia at Kutubpur Village under Royailbari Union in the upazila on October 8, 2006.
As per the prosecution, the convicted Abdul Hekim very often put pressure on his father Budhu Mia to bequeath him all his properties. But Budhu Mia denied this. In this connection, on the incidental day, the convict chopped his father with a Chinese axe.
Hearing a hue and cry, neighbours rushed in, caught Hekim from the spot, and handed him over to police.
Md Riton, son of the deceased's nephew Shahadat Ali, filed a murder case with Kendua Police Station on the day. Later, police submitted the charge-sheet on November 30, 2006. Later, the court took statements of six witnesses and awarded the verdict.
Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Md Abdul Kadir Bhuiyan conducted the case on government's side while Adv Ashish Kumar Singha was on the defendant's side.
