The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have decided to increase the retirement age limit of the JU teachers from 65 to 67 two years ago but the government did not approve it.
The information came from a senate meeting held on Friday evening at the university's Senate Bhaban.
Besides, Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (JUTA) besieged the university's administrative building with demand to increase the retirement age limit of the JU teachers from 65 to 67.
Around one hundred teachers from different departments of the university took position in front of the senate hall room keeping it under lock and key for two hours.
JUTA President Prof Khabir Uddin said, "We urged the university authorities to suspend the Friday's senate meeting in this regard. But they did not do so."
Earlier on May 3, 2014, the JU Senate decided to increase retirement age limit of the teachers from 65 to 67 at a special meeting held at the Senate Bhaban of the university.
However, the government did not approve the decision taken by the JU Syndicate to increase two more years for the teachers' retirement age limit.
