Three suspects have been arrested including the wife of the deceased in connection with the killing of Obaidul Haque, the nephew of new Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc. The arrested were identified as Tasnim Kadija Sonia, wife of the victim, Mahamudul Hasan Mithu and Tanvir Ahmed. Three youths riding on a motorcycle sprayed bullets at Obaidul Haque, 35, manager of Kwality Ice Cream, near his residence at North Circular Road at around 1:00am on June 28 and left the scene leaving him in a pool of blood. Later, he died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, police said. Mitu and Tanvir confessed to the Court that their uncle Saiful Hasan Rubel and Sonia, wife of the deceased, planned to kill Obaidul Haque. Obaidul got married to Sonia seven months back. Rubel was the ex-boy friend of Sonia. Sonia gave Tk 60, 000 to Rubel for purchasing a pistol to carrying the crime. Rubel and Pappu (both absconding), Mithu and Tanvir took part in the killing mission. Mohammad Iqbal Officer-in-Charge of Kalabagan Police Sation said, "It is still not clear to us whether the killing of Obaidul was just a matter of mugging incident or a planned killing, as usually muggers do not attack anyone without being attacked." Obaidul's cousin Yasir Mohammad Adnan had filed a murder case with the Kalabagan Police Station.
