Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed profound shock at the death of Dr Zahirul Islam, a valiant Freedom Fighter and commander of Canada Command Council of Muktijoddha Sangsad.
In a condolence message, the Prime Minister said that the country has lost one of its brightest sons in the death of Dr Zahir, who joined the War of Liberation in 1971 under Sector 2.
She said that Dr Zahir, also a Canada expatriate agriculture scientist, projected the great War of Liberation before the young generation through his series article titled "Ekatturer Guerrilla" (Guerrilla of 71) in the daily Janakantha in the 90s.
"The country and the nation will remember with deep gratitude the contribution of the patriotic Freedom Fighter for ever," she added.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
