Contrary to tradition BCL's 'Curzon Hall' leaders may not get any of the top four positions in the upcoming 28th central council due on July 25 and 26, leaders and activists claimed.
The top four posts include President and General Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League's central committee and Dhaka University (DU) committee. The BCL has announced DU committee on June 19 excluding leaders from Shahidullah Hall, Fazlul Haque Hall and Amar Ekushey Hall, popularly known as Curzon Hall lobby.
A central leader told the Daily Observer that it is not the rule that BCL has to elect a leader from the Curzon Hall lobby in any of the top four posts, but it has been a tradition so long. Sajjad Sakib Badsha, Hemayet Uddin Khan Himu, Bahadur Bepari and incumbent President HM Bodiujjaman Shohag all belong to the Science Faculty and the Curzon Hall lobby.
Vice-President of the BCL and also a leader from the Science Faulty said, "How is it possible to build a 'digital Bangladesh' as promised by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina without the participation of the BCL leaders of the Science Faculty?"
Though, several known faces collected nomination forms for running for the President and General Secretary post of the BCL.
Deputy Secretary of Science and Technology Johirul Islam, Science and Technology Secretary Abdullah Al-Noor Shongram, Deputy Information and Technology Secretary Ashikur Rahman Shuvra, Deputy Library Secretary Tauhiduzzaman Sarker Dhrubo, Deputy Secretary Mamun Kayser, FH Hall President Hasanuzzaman and its General Sceretary Mahmudul Hasan, Amar Ekushey Hall Secretary Miraj, Shahidullah Hall President Aminul Islam its General Secretary Shahiduzzaman Miraj, Vice-President of DU committee Arifuzzaman Rohan, Moshiur Rahman Sharif  collect nomination forms for contesting for President and Secretary posts.
However, few others collected nomination forms for both the President and Secretary posts. President and general secretary aspirants were asked to collect nomination forms from the central office and submit those between July 12 and July 15. The date has been extended for two more days on July 21 and July 22. Scrutiny of the nominations will be done on July 23.
BCL Office Secretary Sheikh Rasel, also the Election Commissioner, told this correspondent, "Some 215 nomination forms were distributed among the aspirants with the fee of Tk 3,000. Of them, 71 forms were distributed among the President candidates."
Many candidates collected nomination forms for the posts out of the Curzon Hall lobby. They are BCL Joint Secretary Shamsul Kabir Rahat, Shahabuddin Chanchal, Kamal Abdul Naser Rubel, Ashikul Pathan Shetu, Imtiaz Bappy, Mobaraq Hossain, Kaji Enayet, Saifur Rahman Shohag, Al Nahian Joy, Mehedi Hasn Rony, Apel Mahmud Shabuj, BM Ehtesham and H M Alamin, among others.
