Gazipur, July 14 (UNB) - A young girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Hatimara in the city on Monday night five days after her boyfriend was beaten to death allegedly by her father.

The deceased was identified as Parveen Akhter, a class IX student of the city’s Hatimara High School and daughter of Hamidul Islam of the area.

Police and locals said Parveen killed herself by hanging from a ceiling fan of her room on Monday night.

As Parveen did not open the door after being called several times today (Tuesday) morning, the family members broke the door down and found the hanging body of Parveen.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

In-charge of Chakrabarti Police camp M Zakir Hossain said Perveen’s boyfriend Tarek, 16, was beaten to death by her family members after being called to their house on July 9.

The girl’s father Hamidul went into hiding after the incident of her boyfriend’s murder.

Police suspected that Parveen might have killed herself out of anger over the killing of her boyfriend.
