Rajon murder: Muhith remanded; another accused held

Sylhet: A district court on Monday placed Muhith Alam,  an accused of killing 13-year-old boy Rajon on July 8, on a five-day remand.

Judge Farhana Yasmin of the Judicial Magistrate Court -2 passed the order after police produced Muhith with a seven-day remand plea.

Meanwhile, police arrested another accused of the case from Jalalabad thana area early in the morning. The arrested man is identified as--Ismail Hossain Abul, 32.

Jalalabad Thana OC Akhter Hossain confirmed the arrest.

On July 8, Samiul Islam Rajon was beaten to death by a group of people on allegation of stealing a rickshaw van at Kumargaon in Sylhet Sadar Upazila.

A vegetable vendor Rajon was the son of driver Sheikh Azizur Rahman.

The killers themselves took the video footage and spread it through internet.

Local people caught Muhith Alam, 22, while he was trying to take away the body in a microbus on Jul 8.

UNB adds, meanwhile, local people gave a 12-hour ultimatum to arrest the killers following a meeting of residents of 22 villages at Rajon’s house on Sunday night.

They also threatened a mass movement if the administration failed to arrest the killers.

Akter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station, also visited the meeting place at night and assured the people that police were doing everything they could to arrest the murderers.
