RAJSHAHI, July 10: Homebound passengers of the western region of the country have been suffering a lot as there is no special train service for them on the Dhaka-Rajshahi route ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest festival of the Muslim community.
Moreover, the passengers on the route alleged that all the train tickets have already been sold out in black. So they don't get any tickets from the counters.
The passengers on the route have become very frustrated as an unwanted situation has been prevailing here.
Abdul Karim, Superintendent of Western Railway, expressing solidarity with the homebound people, said that due to the shortage of adequate manpower and railway engine, the railway authority cannot run special train services on the route for the smooth movement of Eid holiday makers.
But, considering the greater interest of the people, the railway authority has planned to add 28 extra bogies at 28 trains for the upcoming Eid, he added.
Besides, the railway authority has taken special measures in all the railway stations on the route here to ensure passengers' security to avert any unwanted situation during the Eid journey, Karim assured.
The authority has also set up CCTV cameras in the railway stations for monitoring in the situation.
On the other hand, a good number of additional police forces, railway security guards and members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have been deployed in the railway stations to avert unwanted incidents.
