Receive police help for Zakat clothes distribution: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque has called for seeking police help to ensure security during the distribution of Zakat clothes or any other mass gathering. The IGP made the call following the death of 25 people in a stampede in Mymensingh, said AIG (Media) of the Police Headquarters Nazrul Islam. At least 25 poor women and children were killed and 50 others injured in a stampede as they crowded for receiving Zakat clothes distributed by local Nurani Jarda Factory near Mymensingh municipality office early Friday. There are scopes of informing officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station concerned or police super at least one day before the scheduled programme for seeking help, the AIG said quoting the IGP. The information can be sent through e-mail or over phone numbers of the OC or SP concerned. The numbers are available at the website: www.police.gov.bd. Action will be taken against those responsible if the public security is hampered due to any mass gathering staged without informing police, he said.
