The International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) has increased salaries of 4,625 of its scientists, officials and employees partly yielding to their demands.
"ICDDR,B has made an agreement with Staff Welfare Association (SWA) increasing salaries by 6.20 per cent with retrospective effect from April this year which was signed on Wednesday," Dr Firoz Ahmed, General Secretary of SWA, told the Daily Observer. However, they will not get festival bonus in this Eid-ul fitr as it will commence from ensuing Eid-ul Azha, he said.
The agreement was finalised on Tuesday at an extra-ordinary meeting following agitation by the employees. "However, as the authorities did not meet all of our demands, we will continue the movement (after Eid-ul Fitr) under the banner of SWA," Firoz said, adding that "we are yet to fix the date for resuming the movement."
The association launched a movement from June 25 at the ICDDR,B for the first time since its establishment in 1978 as the ICDDR,B authorities denied to accept the nine-point demands of the employees and continued it until June 6.
