At the very recent time Shawon Gaanwala performed two playbacks in a movie - Chhuye Dile Mon, as his debut on playback. The film is a big hit, directed by renowned director Shihab Shaheen, starring Arefin Shubho and Zakia Bari Momo.
Khwaja Muhammad Sazzad Hossian Shawon was born on November 20, 1990 in Chandpur two years before moving to Dhaka. He received his first music lessons at the Shikha Music Academy in Mirpur in 1999. Prominent national radio artiste Md. Salamat Hossain was among the first of his music preceptors. In 2006, he got enrolled in BAFA (Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts) and completed his 4-year certificate course in Nazrul Sangeet. In the same year, Shawon formed his first band 'Divanweshi'. After passing H.S.C. in 2007 he sought a Bachelor in Music again with Narul Sangeet as major at Shanto Mariam University of Creative Technology.
Gaanwala is currently perfecting his Sufiana method, in which both the western and the eastern, especially Indian Melodic Classical music is involved.
Gaanwala's debut solo album 'Sporsho Kori Tomay' was released in 2013. Gaanwala himself wrote all the songs of the album except for the title one written by Ahmed Tahsin Shams. Included in the album the songs - "Tomar Jonno", "Sporsho Kori Tomay", "Ashona", "Lame Love Song" are popular choices of radio stations all over Bangladesh.
Gaawnwala was a former producer of the News Dept. of 'Radio Today FM 89.6.' At present he is hosting the TV show 'Youth Edge' at Channel 9. Last year he founded the band 'Jofola' chiefly to represent melodies by Nazrul. The band also covers songs by The Beatles, CCR, Rod Stewart, Enrique Iglesias, Scorpions, The Eagles, Lionel Richie, John Denver etc.
Recently he worked with prolific composer Nagib Hawk for an upcoming movie named Mrittupuri.
