Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the government has asked owners of factories including garment units to pay workers their salaries of June by July 10 and festival bonus by July 14.
The decision was taken in a meeting between the government and the ‘Crisis Management Committee’ at the secretariat on Thursday. The committee comprises of representatives from factory owners and workers.
After the meeting, State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu told the media that the factories owners have been requested to pay salary and bonus by July 14.
For non-payment of salaries and festival bonus, workers agitate for payment of their dues almost every year before Eid.
They also vandalise public property, and blockade roads causing traffic congestion.
