Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) is giving service to passengers and carrying goods across the country with 1,670 buses and trucks.
"The government has a plan to import new vehicles," he said, while replying to a tabled question from treasury bench member Begum Wasika Ayesha Khan in the House on Monday.
The minister said that there are 1,670 vehicles at this moment in the BRTC fleet, of which, 1,532 are buses and 138 trucks.
Obaidul informed the House that the government has a plan of importing new vehicles. An initiative of procuring 300 double-decker buses, 100 articulated buses and 500 trucks is underway, he added.
Replying to another question from treasury bench member M Abdul Latif, the minister said currently 158 motor vehicles of the BRTC are out of order.
Besides, the minister said 205 motor vehicles of the state-run BRTC were torched or damaged during vandalism unleashed by a vested political group in 2013 and 2015. ?BSS
